VMware Dedicated Virtual Servers
What is a dedicated virtual server (also known as cloud hosting)?
In the past decade, computers have become faster and faster which has led to a majority of servers in data center sitting nearly idle. With the advent of virtualization, many virtual ’servers’ can be hosted on one ‘physical’ machine. This not only saves money in server hardware, this also greatly saves on space and energy consumption within a data center. With the high cost of power these days, it’s no wonder organizations are turning to virtualization in great numbers.
Redundant Infrastructure
The image below depicts the advantages of a virtual infrastructure. Front end nodes host multiple dedicated virtual servers and are connected to shared storage. If one node has hardware trouble or is overloaded, dedicated virtual servers are automatically migrated (called VMotion) to other nodes in real time with no downtime. The end result is a fully redundant, dynamic and scalable system..
Scalability
One of the great advantages of a dedicated virtual server is the ease of increasing resources such as memory, disk space and CPU. This allows you to start small and as your business and needs grow, RRDC can upgrade you with a few clicks of a mouse. Instead of migrating to another physical dedicated server which can take hours and often never goes smoothly, a simple increase in resources is nearly transparent to your users.
The RRDC Difference
Unlike larger providers that charge per hour or per minute, we charge a flat monthly rate so you can easily budget from month to month. If you are experiencing more growth than expected, we can upgrade you to the next VDS plan at no cost with just a click of a mouse.
No Overselling – unlike other providers, RRDC uses VMWare which is a true hardware based virtualization. This means your server resources are never oversold. If you purchase a VM with 4GB of RAM, it’s dedicated to your machine 24/7/365. Other providers using software based virtualization rely on overselling and over-committing in order to make money.
RRDC will also work with you on your entire setup and help you plan for your future. We’ve set up many Virtual Offices for our customers. Other larger providers won’t guarantee you which data center you will be located at or if you have more than one dedicated virtual server, they won’t guarantee the speed between the two. (often used in a split web server and database application)
Pricing
VMware Dedicated Virtual Servers are priced by cpu, memory and disk space. Each plan comes with a set number of resources with the ability to ‘burst’ when there is availability.
